Psychologist CARLY HUGHES

I obtained my degree in the UK before emigrating to Australia in 2009. I have previously worked in community mental health where I managed and supported a team of mental health workers and assisted people who experience long-term mental health difficulties, to increase their independence and quality of life.

I have two beautiful children who keep me on my toes, and who have sparked a passion in me to learn and practice positive parenting and to support others in their perinatal journey. In my spare time, I love to spend time with friends and family, to read and learn, and to travel.

Clinical Approach

I have a warm, friendly and compassionate approach and enjoy bringing my down-to-earth nature to each relationship. I believe it is important to engage young people and children in a fun and interactive manner, to ensure comfort and openness and to enhance therapeutic work. I believe in a holistic and individual approach to wellbeing and use an integrated therapeutic approach which often incorporates:

  • Psychoeducation
  • Neuro-psychotherapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Solution Focused Therapy
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Mindfulness

About Carly

Carly Hughes is passionate about developing therapeutic relationships that empower and encourage personal strength and growth. She is experienced working with children, adolescents and adults. An area of particular interest for Carly is supporting teens and their families to navigate these highly important but, at times challenging, years. Carly understands the importance of viewing challenges through the lens of the individual, no matter their age or neurotype.

Carly works from a trauma- informed perspective and is trained in the use of the Three Phased Approach. An emerging interest for Carly is perinatal psychology and advocating toward a contemporary approach to parenting.

Carly works from Red Hill, Brisbane on Thursdays.
