Psychologist JO BUTLER

I obtained my Masters in Health Psychology in Adelaide and have recently moved back to Brisbane to be closer to family. I have worked with clients from a range of backgrounds, and enjoy working with mothers, young adults, LGBTQIA+ folks and neuro-divergent people. I have experience working with SA health, in rural schools, and at NGOs providing therapy in disadvantaged regions. I have seen the positive impact that psychology can have on someone's life and strive to work with you to achieve this in your own life.

In my spare time, I love to enjoy the company of my family and friends. I particularly enjoy spending time playing games, listening to podcasts and audiobooks and getting out in the nature.

Clinical Approach

I am passionate about helping my clients to achieve their goals and work in the intersection of physical and mental health. I have a down to earth approach to therapy and work to meet clients where they are, to achieve their goals. I believe that there is no one size fits all approach to therapy and enjoy the process of tailoring my approach to suit your individual journey.

I use a combination of  CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), ACT  (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention), CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy), Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing. I love getting to learn and explore new areas alongside my clients.

I work from a neurodiverse affirming perspective and my therapy room is a safe space regardless of gender or sexual identity. I can help with a variety of concerns, including anxiety and stress management, adjustment issues, perinatal clients, parenting challenges, chronic physical health concerns, medical trauma, neurodiversity and LGBTQIA+ clients.
