Clinical Psychologist Lindsay Bennett

I have always held an interest in supporting and empowering women and disadvantaged people. My career in the perinatal space began in 2008 providing supportive pro-choice pregnancy options counselling. Since then I have completed my Masters in Clinical Psychology at QUT in 2013 and went on to provide therapeutic interventions for disadvantaged people who have experienced trauma, for more than 10 years. I completed my EMDR training 2018 and have been practicing this modality for 8 years now. Recently, my interest in the perinatal field has been reignited and I have shifted my focus to supporting mothers, fathers and infants across the transition to parenthood and in the years following.

Clinical Approach

I hold a deep and abiding respect for all people and firmly believe in their innate strength and resilience. My goal with each client is to create an environment in which they can feel safe enough to be truly seen and heard, perhaps for the first time. I bring authenticity, honesty, and transparency to my therapeutic approach, combined with psychoeducation, skills training, and EMDR to assist my clients to move towards healing.

I believe healing is a journey in which we truly discover our authentic selves. A journey that involves overcoming the difficulty of past experiences and learning to be deeply compassionate towards ourselves and others. As a result of this we become free to challenge old patterns of thinking and behaving and choose new ways to engage with the world.

I am LGBTQIA+ and sex-worker welcoming and pro-choice.

I frequently use the following evidence based therapies:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Schema Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
