Psychologist MARLIES RODRIGUEZ

I have worked as a counsellor and psychologist with children, teenagers and families in an extensive range of settings including out of home care and adoption, primary and high schools and NGO mental health settings for over 20 years. I am passionate about collaborating with the whole family to understand the emotions and challenges each child or young person is facing and finding practical solutions to the challenges that life throws up.  My passion for travel has meant I have enjoyed living and working in The Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom and I have worked extensively with families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. I am a mother to two girls with whom I enjoy days at the beach and walks with a view.

Clinical Approach

As well as integrating a number of evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, ACT, Narrative & Solution Focused into her sessions, I have have completed extensive additional specialist training in non-directive play and creative arts therapies. Using a fun, play-based approach makes most sense to children (and to me!) and means that therapy is fun and engaging. I support children and young people with emotional regulation, social skills, school or social concerns, bullying, anger management, grief, developing resilience, anxiety, managing worries, adjustments and depression. I am registered as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner’s Regulation Authority (AHPRA) and am an Associate Member of the Australia Psychological Society (APS).
