Psychologist Zoe McVicar

Hi, I’m Zoe - a registered psychologist with a Master of Psychology (Counselling) from The University of Queensland. My experience includes private practice and not-for-profit settings, supporting adolescents and adults from diverse backgrounds in both face-to-face and telehealth environments.

I enjoy supporting people through periods of change, helping them better understand their experiences, navigate challenges and find ways of moving forward that feel right for them. I have a particular interest in the perinatal space and supporting individuals through the emotional and practical changes that can come with pregnancy, parenthood and the transition into this new stage of life.

Compassion is a value that guides how I approach everyday life and my psychological practice. I believe that meeting ourselves and others with kindness can make difficult experiences feel more manageable.

Outside of work, I love reading, listening to podcasts, going to live gigs and spending time at the beach. I’m also rarely one to turn down a good coffee or tea — and I’m always happy to discuss where to find the best one.

Clinical Approach

My approach is grounded in kindness, curiosity, and collaboration, with a strong focus on strengths-based, person-centred care. I’m committed to creating a space where clients feel truly heard by taking the time to understand what matters most to them, then tailoring therapeutic support to their individual goals.

I’ve had the opportunity to support people through a range of life experiences and emotional challenges, and I’m passionate about supporting everyone from adolescents to adults as they navigate periods of change, uncertainty and complexity.

I integrate a range of evidence-based therapies into my practice, including:

  • Compassion-Focused Therapy,
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

Building a warm, trusting therapeutic relationship is at the heart of how I work together with clients to make sense of their experiences, highlight their strengths, and discover meaningful next steps that genuinely suit them. Mindfulness
